STEAM Strategic Plan

The journey of Mableton’s STEAM program began in the fall of 2012 as a grassroots effort of teachers, parents, administrators and district personnel who recognized the need to bring a program to a Title I school in south Cobb that would be so innovative and revolutionary that it would make a significant impact on students and our community.  We began our journey with a STEM focused curriculum. The teachers were intrigued at the promise that STEM could bring to their own teaching repertoire and the long-lasting impact it could have on their students.  A committee was formed, and they began to actively conduct research and visit other STEM schools to gain understanding and to build a foundation of a STEM philosophy.

In 2015, under the direction of a new principal and district representatives, an arts integration transition shifted our focus to a STEAM curriculum.  This transition is proving to be beneficial to our students as we help them develop critical 21st century work skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking.

In 2019, Dr. Tamika Grizzle became our innovation specialist.  This is a dedicated position to support teachers, students, and parents with the STEAM initiative.
